MMS STEAM students work on prototype "grippers"

Joy Spencer of Sarah Bush Physical Therapy visited the eighth grade STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) class and presented on how prosthetic limbs are utilized and function in the world of physical therapy. Holiday event lineup includes music, drama, art

Builders Club, Kiwanis share the holiday spirit

Mattoon Middle School Builders Club members donated items for shoe boxes to be sent to Appalachia. Builders Club officers shopped for items with a generous donation from the Kiwanis Club which sponsors our group.  “We organized the items according to type and then packed shoe boxes with items most of us take for granted along with several fun items and toys for the age and gender that was selected for that box,” said . . .

Fifth-grade leaders create activity for first-graders

Fifth-graders in Kelsey Elliot’s class showed their leadership by reading to first grade classrooms. They read books by Aaron Reynolds and Dan Santat and taught an SEL mini-lesson to accompany the book. “They had so much fun planning and presenting their lessons to younger students,” said Elliot.  “They created their own lessons based on the message in their book as well as wrote a lesson plan to follow . . .
