Day of Giving to raise funds for scholarship

  David Janssen, chair of Mattoon High School Alumni Scholarship fund advisory committee, recently announced their goal to raise $50,000 to establish the Angela McQueen Citizenship Award.   Residents of Mattoon and surrounding communities will have an opportunity March 22 to show their gratitude for the unselfish actions of MHS teacher Angela McQueen on September 20, by participating in the 24-hour day of giving. . . .

Seventh-graders create activities for sixth-graders

Jeana Craft's seventh grade advisory class has been working on a year-long project in tandem with Our American Voice-- an organization that empowers students to make change within their own communities. Craft's students chose to go into the sixth grade advisory classrooms once a week to do activities with the students. Each week, they prepare activities and games centered around various topics. Valentine's Day celebrated with dance

High School aged students at the Neil Armstrong Program had their Valentine dance. The students in the domestic’s domain made chocolate Rice Krispie treats wrapped in foil to look like Hershey kisses with a little saying sticking out the top. The students in the rec-leisure domain made decorations for the tables and the students in the transition class set up the tables and decorated them. Valentine mus ic was played and they danced . . .
